Turano Baking named distinguished vendor
(Baking & Snack, July 1, 2000)

Turano Baking Co.,  a Chicago-based family-owned specialty baker, was a recipient of the William B. Darden Distinguished Vendor Award by Darden Restaurant, Inc., Orlando, Fla.

Yurano was one of companies among Darden's 1,200 vendors that were selected to receive the award at Darden's annual vendor meeting during the National convention held May 20-23 at Chicago.

The award is named after the founder of the Orlando, Fla.-based restaurant chain, which owns and operates more than 1,100 Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze and Smoky Bones BBQ & Sports Bar restaurants. Darden said the award recognized Turano's "product quality, innovative development and service-oriented approach."

Turano supplies all Olive Garden restaurants in the Midwest with breadsticks and created the Cuban bread served at Bahama Breeze restaurants. It also developed a series of cookies that will be featured on a new Olive Garden menu this summer.

"They have been such a valuable ally for us in supplying our breadsticks that when we decided we were going to add cookies to our list of desserts, Turano was the logical choice to develop and then supply our restaurants," said Brad Blum, president of Olive Garden.
